Root Canals
Infected dental pulp
Underneath the protective enamel coat of the tooth is the pulp containing nerves and blood vessels. Through decay or injury the pulp can become damaged and infected. Once the pulp is infected, the options for treatment are either root canal treatment or extraction.
Prevent further infection
Root canal treatment is a procedure that can save the tooth by removing the infection, cleaning out the canal and filling it to prevent further infection. This requires time but it is done under local anaesthetic and is no more painful than having an ordinary filling.
